Visits to the Dentists

Does the dental healthcare world work like the medical healthcare world?  Or vice versa?  I honestly never go to the doctor ever, unless I'm absolutely dying.  Due to the lack of health insurance I don't see the point of spending money for a visit if I'm not sick.  Even if I am sick, I will try to self treat and self diagnose the problem to avoid spending the 200 or so dollars for the doctor to tell me what i already to know just so he will prescribe me the medicine I already knew that I needed.

Okay, back to the point, I have had some broken teeth in my head for a while.  They are molars so they don't make me look disfigured and they haven't been hurting so I was waiting for a time when I had some insurance. (working for a small business owner, the small business doesn't have the means to provide coverage)  Well, last week, they started hurting.  I'm talking serious pain.  So finally I broke down because I couldn't take it anymore, and went to a dentist.  Now, I'm 5 days into this, I've seen two specialists, I'm being sent to a 3rd.  No where closer to anything being fixed or done.  Each visit to a different specialist that tells me I need to see another specialist, because I'm at the wrong specialist, takes a chunk of money just to tell me I'm at the wrong place, while doing absolutely zero work.
